Hello! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving break! It was nice to have time to spend with family. Second quarter will be over before we know it! Time is going by quickly and I know the next month will be a whirlwind. I will give the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) the next couple of weeks and will get students grouped into reading groups when we return from Winter Break. I will let you know what level reading group your student will be placed in as soon as I finish assessing. The end of the year reading goal for kindergarten is a level 6.

What we are up to this week….
Math- we are starting a new topic in math: Exploring Addition
Writer’s Workshop - We are beginning a new unit in writing: How-To Writing (teaching someone how to do something using steps ex. How to Ride a Bike)
Science- What is a Scientist? The class listened to the book Ada Twist, Scientist and will do a fun science experiment Wednesday with Mrs. Hillenburg!
Reading - We will read fiction and nonfiction books about bears and write what we learn about bears. We will discuss making predictions, and the features of nonfiction books (glossary, headings, bold print, labels, etc…)
