Facebook: This year I am trying out a class Facebook page. My primary concern when creating this page is privacy. Please click HERE to view the privacy options for groups. I currently have our group set to "Closed" but after people have time to join, I will probably set the group to "Secret" depending on how things go. I will let you know when/if I do this.
A few things to keep in mind:
1) I have to approve anyone who asks to join the group so you won't have access until I see/accept your request.
2) The purpose of this group is for you to get a peek into our classroom -- it isn't the easiet to add pictures to the blog so I think Facebook is a great way for you to see what we are doing. Please keep posts from the group IN the group.
3) If you are not comfortable with your child's picture being on Facebook, please let me know. I will never put their names with their pictures and only members (fellow parents) will be able to see the posts.
4) To find and join our class Facebook page please search "Mrs. Woods' Kindergarten" Let me know if you can't find it!

This summer I was able to attend a workshop over the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I wasn't sure what to expect but by the end of the 3 days I knew I had come across something amazing-- something that will not only help me become a better teacher but something I could use to help my students become LEADERS. I had some knowledge of the 7 Habits from being a Student Council leader; this past year we read from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. The habits for kids and adults are the same:
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win- Win
5. Seek 1st to Understand, then to be Understood
6. Synergize
7.. Sharpen the Saw
I know it's hard to imagine students not only understanding but using these habits. Honestly, I didn't know what half of them meant before my training. But the more I read and research, the more I believe it is possible. So WE are going to try it. This year myself and my students will be learning and putting the 7 Habits to work in our lives, together. I don't know exactly what this will look except the first 8 weeks we will take time introducing what a HABIT is and then learning and understanding what each habit MEANS.
I encourage you to watch this short video clip about the 7 Habits. It's informative...and funny :)
If you are looking for more information please feel free to ask me! I am excited to see where this journey takes us!

Click HERE for the school supply list. Here are suggestions when shopping:
- You can find inexpensive ear buds at Wal-Mart & Dollar Tree. You will need to label these with your child's name or initials. When you find a great deal on them, I would suggest buying an extra pair. These will be used all year and sometimes they do not last the entire year and end up needing replaced!
- I have a TON of liquid glue left over from last year. Consider buying extra glue sticks instead of liquid glue-- we tend to go through glue sticks quickly!
- When shopping for pencils I HIGHLY suggest the Ticonderoga brand. They are slightly more expensive but are made of real wood and sharpen better & last MUCH longer than other pencils.
- Please put your child's name ONLY on their ear buds, binders (inside), and scissors. We use community supplies so each table will share crayons, glue, erasers and pencils. I will label your child's folders with their name after Meet the Teacher Night.
