Last week, we were able to test our hypothesis that we made with our senses about popcorn. We discussed what an observation and a hypothesis was, and then we were able to observe what actually happens when popcorn is made! The kids loved it and had a lot of fun! PUMPKIN CARVING We will be carving pumpkins in our classroom on October 28th for Spooktacular at the Dickerson Park Zoo. I am needing parents to help carve pumpkins in our classroom. VERY IMPORTANT PARENT NIGHT
Thursday, Oct. 9th from 6:30-8:00 we will meet to discuss different things like PTO, volunteering for different school activities, fundraising and so on. Childcare and pizza will be provided and you will either need to let me know that you are coming or sign up using the QR code on the flyer sent home on Friday.
READING LOGS
I sent reading logs home yesterday. If you did not get one, let me know and I will send home another one. The Book-It program also starts in October, and when you and your child reads at least 10 books in a month, return the reading log and your child will get a coupon to receive a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! Also, when your child reads 100 books in our class, I will order pizza for them and we will get to celebrate their accomplishment! If you have any questions, please let me know.
PAJAMA DAY TOMORROW!! (Thursday)
The class earned 50 Tiger Tokens! They voted on what they would like to do when they met their goal. They decided the would like to have a pajama day! Please send in tennis shoes for recess if your child will be wearing slippers in the room.
LIBRARY BOOKS
The class is bringing home their library book today. They are very excited about this! Please remember that library is next Wednesday, so they need to bring their book back before or on next Wednesday to get a new book. I will try to send a Remind message to remind you:) I may need to send myself a Remind message to remember to do that.... :)

Ask your child about...
Writing-Using our Word Wall to help stretch out words, our new paper that we are using that has one line on it for writing down a simple sentence. I really stress to the students to use the spelling words that we have learned so far to write their sentence. We will continue to work on adding details in our pictures by labeling and also stretching out the sounds we hear in words that are not on our Word Wall.

Read to Self-We will begin to discuss why we read books-reading for information (non-fiction books) and text-to-text connections that we can make between different books that we have read.
Math-Continue working on numbers 0-9, working on writing and making 10 this week. We will also be practicing counting to 50.
Handwriting-We will begin handwriting this week.
