Parent Teacher Conferences
I sent a reminder home this week with the time you signed up. Click HERE for a link you can also use to check your time. Please be aware we only have 15 minutes to visit. We can schedule additional time if needed. You will get your child's progress report that night. We will talk about your student's strengths and areas of improvement. I am looking forward to visiting with you about your child’s progress so far this year!
**If you are not signed up yet, please email me and we will get it set up!
Reading
The last few weeks we have been talking about retelling the story and making connections to the book. When you read at home, ask your students if the story made them think of something that happened to them or to retell you the story. They are getting pretty good at it!
Also at Parent/Teacher Conferees there will be reading logs that will start in November. Pizza Hut has the Book It Program where if yours student reads a certain number of books each month, they will receive a free personal pan pizza! More information will be given at PT Conferences. There will also be sight word lists to practice at home. As we get farther into the year, we will begin reading groups. Sight words are an important part of the development of reading. Below is a list of sight words we have already talked about in class.
Sight words- a, go, is, in, like, me, my, so, to, we. Next weeks words will be up and on. Students ideally will be able to read and write these words.
Writing
We have been working really hard on stretching our words out in writing. Also finger spaces and punctuation is important. Do not be alarmed when writing comes home and you can't read it. At this point that is developmentally appropriate. I am mostly looking for a correct beginning, middle, and end sound.
We have also started handwriting where we are practicing making the letters the correct way. We start with uppercase and work to lowercase.
Math
Students are loving math stations. We are learning about 10 frames, comparing numbers, and measuring items. Math is very kinesthetic, which I think they enjoy!
Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to talking with you soon!
