What we have been learning:
Leader in Me: Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind
Each student came up with a goal to work on at school. Some goals focused on behavior and some are academic. The students came up with their goal on their own.
Reading: Students have been working hard to build stamina during Read to Self. After we finish up alphabet letters, we will add Word Work to our Daily 5 rotation. Students will work independently at stations focusing on letters, sounds and words.
Handwriting: Students began working in their handwriting book this week. We are focusing on starting letters and numbers “at the top”.
Math: We completed our first math test this week over the numbers 1-5. The class did very well on the test! We started Topic 2 in math. Students will compare numbers to 5.
Alphabet: I am sending a note home tomorrow with the upper and lowercase letters highlighted that your child does not recognize. If you do not receive one, it is because your child has mastered all of the letters. We are finishing up with alphabet recognition next week and moving on to letter sounds. I would recommend working on the letters they do recognize at home. Thank you!

Tiger Pride Assembly
Reminder that our first Tiger Pride Assembly is tomorrow Friday, September 29 at 2:30 p.m. If you ordered a t-shirt at the beginning of the year for your child, I will hand them out and have them put them on in the morning. Every Friday students are asked to wear these t-shirts, but especially on Tiger Pride Fridays. Families are welcome to attend. There are chairs set up for parents in the cafeteria, and students will sit with the class.
Our assemblies usually last until 3:15. If you choose to come, you are welcome to take your child with you after the assembly. Taking them after the assembly does not count against attendance. If you are taking your child home from the assembly, students will walk back to the music with Mrs. Kuchta (they are in music when the assembly begins) and you can let Mrs. Kuchta know you are taking them home. The class takes their backpacks with them to music on assembly days, so you will not need to walk down to our classroom for their things. Please email me or send a note to let me know you are taking your child with you so that I know where they are as well. Let me know if you have questions!
Yearbook
Yearbook order forms are coming home today! There are a limited amount of these.
Open House
October 3, 6:00-7:00
Come and see your child’s artwork in the hallways, visit our classroom, and check out the book fair in the library! We will have a classroom scavenger hunt, and a sign up for Parent Teacher conferences. You can pick up your fundraiser items during Open House in the gym. I hope to see you there!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Click HERE if you want to sign up now for a parent teacher conference. You can sign up at Open House as well. Please type your name and your child’s name in the time slot you would like. If these times do not work for you, we can find another time to meet.
Rest Time
We will discontinue rest time after this week. I wanted to see how they did with a quiet reading time instead of resting this week and it went really well. Most of the class was not sleeping and were getting restless during this time. If you think this will be a problem for your child, an earlier bedtime may be a good idea. I will send rest towels and mats home tomorrow.
Facebook
I have been posting activities going on at school on our class Facebook page. Please let me know if you would like to join it and are having trouble finding it.
Upcoming Dates
9/30 Tiger Pride Assembly at 2:30
