Hello! I am very excited about the first day of kindergarten! I enjoyed meeting you last night at Meet the Teacher. Unfortunately, it is always very busy and chaotic and I don't feel like I get a chance to really visit more than a few seconds. I truly want to be your partner in education this year and welcome emails, phone calls and individualized conferences any time you want/need to meet with me. I want your child to be as successful as possible this year!
After visiting with you last night, here are a few things that came up that I thought would be helpful to post about for everyone...
LUNCH MONEY
Please send to school in an envelope labeled "lunch money/child's name" It is better to send enough to last a few days (at least) if possible instead of money each day. I will send money to the cafeteria and they will put it on your child's account. When their account is in the negative, you will get a note. (this is in the k handbook I sent home last night too)
Prices for lunch:
Student breakfast - 1.30
Student lunch - 2.35
SOLAR ECLIPSE
Please fill out the form I sent home if you DO want your child to go outside with us and put on the sunglasses provided to the school to view the eclipse. If I do not receive the form, your child will stay inside with a teacher. Please know that with kindergarten kids, this will probably end up being a very quick thing. We will go outside, put glasses on for a few seconds, and then we will play outside for a little while or come inside. I do not foresee this as being a huge event for this age group.
GETTING HOME
Please discuss with your child how they will go home tomorrow. The first day can be confusing for kids and sometimes they will decide to get out of the car rider line and go the bus rider line..... or vice versa. I have made necklaces for each kiddo they will wear home so that if another teacher notices a child with a car necklace in the bus line, they can step in to help. This system has worked very well in years past. PLEASE send necklaces back to school in your child's red take home folder every day until I let you know that we are ready to get rid of them. Thank you for your help!
KINDERGARTEN KIDS PAPER
In the folder I sent home last night, there was a paper called "Kindergarten Kids".
Please fill out with your child and send it back to school when you have time so we can get to know each other a little better. I will hang these in the hall, which the kids love to look at! Thanks!
TOMORROW
You are more than welcome to walk your child down to our classroom tomorrow and take a picture. If your child is likely to have separation issues, it may be better to say good bye in the hallway or at the beginning of the hall. There are teachers by the office that will walk them down to our classroom if you think this will be easier. I am very excited for our day tomorrow! It's going to be a GREAT first day!
