What We are Learning:
Math: We are working on addition and subtraction
Reading: We have been focusing on problem/solution in books. We are in week 4 of guided reading groups. Some of the strategies that we have been discussing in books are: Eagle Eye (look at the pictures for help)
Lips the Fish (say the first sound of the word)
Stretchy Snake (stretch the word out)
Chunky Monkey (look for a chunk in the word that you already know to help you decode ex. stand)
Reinforcing these strategies while reading at home would be beneficial! I will send a list home of the strategies in case you would like to reference it at home while reading.
Writing: We began our opinion unit in writing. Students state their opinion and give a reason why it is their opinion.
Spelling Words: did, for
Sight Word Lists: I have a lot of students that are finishing up with list 10. I give the student the choice if they would like to continue working on lists. I have a 2nd book of words and the lists start over at 1. A lot of the class loves working on these and are proud of their accomplishments. I am really excited about how hard they are working to learn these words and it carries over into their reading. THANK YOU for taking time at home to work on these.
